Wayne Kramer collaborated with The Good The Bad on Friday 16 March at SXSW, here's how it went down...

On their last USA tour in 2010, The Good The Bad embellished their affiliation with the Jail Guitar Doors charity (having previously appeared on the soundtrack of the charity’s ‘Breaking Rocks’ documentary), as the band played alongside Billy Bragg, Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters) and Wayne Kramer (MC5) at the Strummerville/Jail Guitar Doors showcase.

Upon seeing them for first time, Wayne Kramer described The Good The Bad as “an incredible new band” and both are now delighted to announce they’ll be joining forces and locking axes together at Roky Erickson’s Ice Cream Social 10th Anniversary show at Threadgills, Friday 16th March.

Later that evening, Wayne Kramer will lead the charge at the Jail Guitar Doors official showcase at the Swan Dive with Tom Morello and other special guests. Jail Guitar Doors is a non-profit program that provides musical instruments and opportunities to help rehabilitate prisoners.

As well as Roky Erickson’s showcase and their official showcase at Headhunters on Wednesday 14th March, The Good The Bad will play several other shows, kicking off proceedings at Guero’s Taco bar (location of the opening scene of Tarantino’s Death Proof), continuing with Austin Psych Fest’s gigathon at the Spiderhouse and culminating in the secretive House of Songs project at a mysterious mansion in an undisclosed location within the city limits.

At the invitation of the nice people at SexRoom Sessions, we played our very first acoustic session in Clermont-Ferrand (France) while we were on tour at Europavox Festival. In what was a very cosy environment, we managed to fit ourselves, 3 guitars, some interesting magazines and a French crowd of music lovers. Thanks to SexRoom and Mary Regnier-Machado for arranging everything. There'll be some more acoustic music in future, we promise. Enjoy...

The Good The Bad have been confirmed to play the inaugural Cherry Cola Crawl Festival hosted by 'Cherry Cola', the revered London club night on 24th September 2011. Appearing alongside dignitaries from London's legendary music community including Steve Cradock (Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene), The Animals and Steve Diggle (The Buzzcocks), it will be TGTB's first UK appearance this year after recording their second album and touring Europe over the summer months.

More news soon...

2010 has now been sent hurtling in to history, remembered by a few thousand people across Europe for ending with some ringing in the ears. This was because TGTB accompanied BRMC on tour across Denmark, Germany and France over December. Two nights in Frankfurt were sandwiched with The Grey Hall in Copenhagen and the Elysee Montmartre in Paris, France.

Thanks to BRMC, Grant Gelt, Anna Howard and Thomas Baigneres for making it happen. And Peter Hayes for helping to fix our guitar which got bust in the French soundcheck.

Here's a French review...

For our recent tour of London (21-24th October), it took as long to get there as it would if we were going to New York. This is what we think about that. Upon our eventual arrival we headed straight to Denmark Street for our tremendous album launch show, followed by a quick trip to see John Kennedy at Xfm. We played three tracks, had a little chat and this is what it sounded like:

We're on our way to London as we type... we've been sat on the airport runway for 3 hours because a bird flew in the engine. Easyjet really should change their name.

Straight after our show we head immediately for Leicester Square to play a session for John Kennedy on Xfm X-Posure, we'll be on just after midnight and you can listen live online on the Xfm website.

We travelled to Amiens last weekend to play at Lunes Des Pirates for the Nuit Blanches Festival. Not without a quick stop off at Le Crazy Horse of course. Managing to defy the French strikes which had crippled most of Paris, it was a great weekend. Gwen on the lights, Sebastien on the stage, Fabienne, Dounia and Elsa for looking after us. We even managed to get to look at the cathedral. It's a great little town. Here's some video of what happened:

In what is now a fuzzy blur of a week, we can only remember amazing shows with musical dignitaries, stealing someones bike for a photoshoot, hanging out at Jack White's pop-up record store, joining a search party looking for Barley the dog, finding toilet seats shaped like guitars, crashing Tom Morello's not-so-secret afterparty, drinking 20 tequilas and 20 frozen margaritas in two hours, and the rest you can find out about in our previous blog postings.

It doesn't matter how little sleep you get whilst there, being in any one place at SXSW you are (by default) missing sixty plus other great shows elsewhere. Wayne Kramer said it best: "Take it easy. But take it". We took as much as we could and we left wanting more. Until next time Austin, you're an ace city and special crowd for sure.

Sunday at SXSW is never complete without a sojourn to SoCo (South Congress). Resultantly, we ended up at Guero's (where Tarantino filmed the opening scenes of Death Proof), clocking up a bill of 20 tequilas and 19 frozen margaritas with Nathan and Erica, ran into Austin's favourite son Leslie Cochran (oh and Val Kilmer was hanging around) and then had a few more tequilas. It doesn't really matter what you do, SXSW never feels complete. Wayne Kramer said it best: "Take it easy. But take it". Until next time Austin. You've been a wonderful audience.
